Don't Panic - Offer Kaye's Homepage

Who am I?

I'm a 32 year old Electrical Engineer from Israel, working for Zoran Microelectronics, a leading provider of digital solutions. I am married and currently live in Haifa (warning: site is in Hebrew), though originally I'm from Kfar Vradim (warning: site is in Hebrew). I am a graduate of the Technion- the Israeli Institute of Technology.
I got married on Thursday, the 6th of September, 2001. Here are some pics from my wedding.

What is this site for?

A portal for me, a place where I can write all kinds of stuff, and whatever else I want to make of it in the future.

Areas of Interest

I intend to fill this area with links and info relevent to things I find interesting. For now there are only two subjects I've written about: Perl, and GDSII (note - the GDSII page has moved to the semigy.com site, where it will be taken good care of :)).

Misc.

How was this site built?

Well, first I needed a free host, because I didn't want to spend money for a paid site only to find out I don't have the time/energy to devote to it. So I searched Google and came up with FreeWebSpace.net, a directory of free web hosts. I chose eSmartWeb because they offered a lot of space and an easy registration process.

The source files for the site (HTML and CSS), were written on an HP-UX Unix workstation using NEdit, an open-source text editor. It's a really good editor that I heartly recommend, for those not familiar with it I suggest you download and try it- the syntax highlighting support is superb! (and I think it has even been ported to Windows ☺ ). If you don't know what "open-source" means, check out the Open Source Initiative (OSI) website.
Q. You dope! Why handcode the site when you could use an HTML editor?
A. Because I care about learning XHTML and CSS, because I want full control of how my site looks and behaves, and because I care about the code's conformity to the HTML and CSS standards. I don't care about speed and comfort, so I chose to go the handcoding way... ☺
Q. Did you really write this site from scratch?
A. Nah, what do you think I am, crazy? ☺ I copied the index.html and CSS files from the homepage of my good friend Baruch Even and used those as starting points for my own pages. Never reinvent the wheel if you don’t have to...

For knowledge regarding HTML, XHTML and CSS, I usually turn to the following sources:

Some pictures look like broken links! HELP!!!

What's probabably wrong is that your browser doesn't support PNG pics.
I chose to use PNG graphic files on this site since PNG is an open standard, PNG pics are usually very small and because PNG pics usually load faster due to the way they are built. However, some older browsers don't support this file format, and so display a broken link. To fix this, upgrade your browser!
